I’m so smitten with this book. If you’re looking for a heart-warming book that’s full of steamy romance, then this is for you. It was enjoyable, sweet, sexy, and fun-loving. Claire the heroine is so tired of defending herself when she shows up to events alone. She was absolutely not going to her co-worker’s wedding just to sit at the singles table all night. When put on the spot she blurted out that she would be bringing her boyfriend. A boyfriend that, as it happens, she didn’t have.
“I have to go. And now it’s even worse because I told her I was bringing my boyfriend.” Jamie choked on her martini and set the glass down on the bar so roughly it sloshed over the rim. “Your what?” “My boyfriend. You know, the one who looks like Ryan Gosling and fucks like a rock star.”
Claire not knowing how to get out of the situation, she decides booking a date online is her best option. Which brings us to her pretend boyfriend for the night, Theo. The arrangement was supposed to be a few hours with a contract plainly setting the rules. But, they were so intrigued with one another and so drawn to each other. They decided why not enjoy the night together. No harm, no foul.
“Stay. For her, I’d stay.”
Theo, the hero, is so emotionally damaged it’s heart-breaking. As a child, he was not given a chance to love or to be loved. His family was known to run from their problems. The more time he spent with Claire, the more he struggled with wanting more, he wanted to stay. It became evident that if he had any chance moving forward with her, he needed to face his past. He also needed to be completely honest with her and hope she accepted his past.
“Come on,” she whispered. “Jump.”
They were so sweet and fun together. It didn’t hurt that their sexual chemistry was off the charts HOT!! I really enjoyed the deep emotional bond that they created. I loved watching the healing journey, it was
about being yourself, being enough, and finding love. I fell in love with them together, but Theo especially stole my heart.
I loved this book. It was a beautiful story that was so WELL WRITTEN. With each one of Melanie Harlow’s books, I fall a little more in love with her. This is a complete standalone romance. That being said, Claire’s best friends that make appearances are both from other books. You can find Margot in After we Fall and Jamie in Man Candy. Both are favorites of mine. You should definitely check them out.
“I don’t deserve you, but if you were mine, I’d spend every last damn day of my life trying.”
The epilogue was PHENOMENAL seriously one of the best.
Standalone. Contemporary Romance. Adult.
